August 13, 2021 is National Filet Mignon Day, National Prosecco Day, National Lefthanded Awareness Day, and National Blame Someone Else Day. Naturally, I had to write a poem.
Blessed Friday the 13th
What a treat, thick cut and round,
plan a meal that’s rather sound.
Filet mignon, the food of class!
Today’s the day to pour a glass
to pair with it, from Italy
a glass of wine; to you, from me.
But not just any will suffice:
prosecco, white as edelweiss.
And on this day fell swoop we make—
use your left hand to clear the plate.
Mind, should that toast or meal be slain,
whatever reason, shift the blame.
From all your burdens now eschew,
the ides of August minus two.
